Leave it to Tik Tok to take something people have been doing for generations and pass it off as something new.

I call it toddler dinner. Usually crackers, hummus, a couple of string cheese sticks, and fruit.

Super irritating to call it this.
I sometimes call is ploughman’s supper which I guess is also gendered but the idea being that you worked hard and probably had a large midday meal and needed something easy before an early bedtime.
My elderly relatives who were born in the 19th century would point out that by definition a supper was a light meal, often a cold plate. Dinner was the large meal of the day typically eaten between noon and three. Even the mills would typically shut down mid day to let workers go home for mid day dinner. It was sort of revolutionary (in a bad way) when they started either having on site cafeterias or expecting workers to bring a cold lunch.

This describes about 90% of my meals

This reminds me of a former roommate who often had Triscuits with pepper jack for dinner.

Come on!! Each generation seems to be more irritating than the last. And yes, I did this always when I was single and still do it when I'm alone. Usually grapes, smoked salmon, crackers, tomato.

+1, I like eating this way but “girl dinner” ti describe a satisfying but low effort meal a woman might consume on her own is gross.

I though we’d stopped using girl to describe competent adult women around the time #girlboss became the joke it was always destined to be.

We eat like this once a week. My kids love it because they can pick and choose what to eat. I use it to put out whatever is on hand that we need to use up (variety of cheeses, nuts, olives, fruit, deli meats, etc.) and we’ll also buy a baguette, which they call the “good bread.” Sometimes I throw some marshmallows or m&ms on the board and my kids think I’m the most fun mom ever .

Didn’t know this is a girl dinner, but I’m glad my whole family likes eating like this!

Trader Joe’s fridge case:
Tzatziki
Pita crackers
Mixed cheese wedge package
Hummus
Unexpected cheddar spread
Grilled red peppers
Some grapes, apple slices
Maybe salami variety tray
Line it up on the counter and go to town!

Huh, I always eat more when I eat “snack dinners.” Normal meals are easier to portion control.

To you.

Anonymous wrote:Huh. I just call this “I’m not making dinner tonight”.

Aged cheddar, crackers, pre-sliced soppressata, nuts. Maybe hummus and pita. Another easy one is frozen dumplings with gyoza sauce.

Seriously. What else can we re-invent for the first time?
I'm not getting dressed today because I'm not going out. Bralette, joggers and a soft tank top is now girl-lounging. Write a whole article on it.

I like to put my leg up when I shave my legs in the shower. That's a girl shower. I use 12 different products. Men use one product and don't need a foot ledge.

I’m so glad I’m of the generation that talks this way:

“I think the concept of girl dinner came to me while I was on a hot girl walk with another female friend of mine,” Ms. Maher, 28, said from her apartment in Los Angeles.

Barf.

The name is "snacking".
