* Oil
* Coal electricity
* Lumber
* Roofing
* Chemical products
* Curbside Garbage collection
* World Cup stadiums

OP, you still haven't answered this one: Are you the same OP of the "Dakota Johnson is wasting her fertility" thread recently? The language you use sure sounds like her. Whether you're her or not, you are intensely focused on strangers' perceived fertility and pregnancies. Do you have childbearing issues and you're projecting anger about that, onto these celebrities? Then add Chrissy Teigen to the list. She was already pregnant too like Hilaria. Her surrogate even had a miscarriage and a surgery before getting pregnant a second time while Chrissy was already pregnant. Disgusting. Chrissy wanted to fastrack the kids to complete her family because she’s getting old and maybe wants to go back to work.


I expect nothing less from that vile creature Chrissy Teigan.

What do they pay if the surrogate dies as a result of the pregnancy or during childbirth? What do they pay if your pelvic floor drops out and you carry your uterus in a tote bag for the rest of your life? There are also to a of stories about surrogates being forced to abort fetuses or selectively reduce. They are treating them like cattle. If you can’t sell organs, you shouldn’t be able to rent a womb.

It's convenience. Having 4+ kids is a status symbol for women and surrogacy using your own eggs makes it very achievable so long as you have $$$. Even rich Mormons are using surrogacy to hit the 7 kid goal. Adoption is declassé nowadays.

It's fascinating that in the US we are almost at a tipping point where more rich kids are being born than middle class and poors, who are priced out of parenthood beyond 2, and often beyond 1 or 0. Yet most of these rich kids will have to slide down the ranks because the top cannot support that many.

Personally, I find it very disturbing if an otherwise healthy & fertile woman who can physically have a baby without issue pays someone else to carry her fertilized egg. Renting other people’s bodies in the absence of a compelling health issue or physical inability to carry to term seems….highly problematic. Almost akin to buying someone’s organ for a transplant.

It feels like we are seeing a wave of surrogacy right now in Hollywood that is disproportionate to their actual numbers. Like, people are doing it because they can and there’s no real pushback.

The only people I know IRL using surrogates are gay male couples. And that’s a compelling reason, imho, because they can’t otherwise have a child.

So is the wave of surrogacy among the rich and famous due to need or convenience?

Honestly it's a mix of the above. Some like Jamie Chung are doing it to "preserve their body" during the small window they have to make money as an actress. Some like Chrissy Teigen and Kim Kardashian, are doing it after having carried babies because of medical concerns with their earlier pregnancies. Some are doing it for a first child after years of trying and doctors telling them they probably won't be able to carry a baby (Gabrielle Union).
