Save for a house? The housing is abysmal. Very, very old outdated houses with very expensive and dirty oil heat, no a/c, mold issues, foundation issues, houses that have long been abandoned in place. With ridiculous taxes.

Obviously you haven’t been in CT for a while bc homes are selling, even in the cities.

You’ve probably already moved but I second Mystic and Stonington as well.

30 minutes from Groton.

You don’t have to reply to every thread, you know.

I lived in CT for three years in my 20s I wouldn't say the people are not nice, but most people are from there and have built in networks of people from elementary, high school, UConn etc.. so they aren't really open to making a lot of new friends. I would find a convenient place for a year lease and look around to see where you could move where you like the people and there are newer homes or developments where you could meet other newcomers. It is a beautiful state and has alot of variety geographically that is easy to get to

Good luck finding community. CT is not friendly.

Why isn't is friendly? In what ways?

I grew up CT, it is way more friendly than the DC area.

Certainly people are more practical and less obsessed with keeping up with the Joneses, although Greenwich might be an exception to that. But we're not talking about that end of CT anyway.

I think CT is a bit insular and typical of a lot of New England--they're just not overly open and friendly and chirpy the way they are in the South. (I moved there from Georgia). Perfectly nice IME. Just more aloof and blunt, but if you're coming from NYC then you won't really notice it, and they will seem friendlier than that.

9:52 back to say also Noank and Niantic and Waterford.

Close to Harkness Memorial Park, which is really pretty and used to host Summer Nights at Harkness, which was a concert series and BYO picnic. It was nice. Not sure if that still happens but they had them for years and years.

I’m from CT and I agree we are not nice people. I now live in the Midwest and I’m def cold compared to others.
