Even in highschool, do exact percentages or +/- modifiers show up on transcripts and the like?

Why wouldn't you have the son email instead of doing it yourself (serious question)? he can cc" you if you want the admins to know youa re involved.

The teacher is on break. Even if she reads your email, it is unlikely that she will respond. No one at FCPS will spend time changing an A- to an A when the school year is over.

It’s not a huge deal to change it from an A- to an A. I’m sure the school will accommodate you.

There's a possibility the teacher submitted grades already and after receiving the paper on Thursday had to submit a grade change form. It sounds like she didn't BUT, you could take that approach when emailing.

I'd email the Director of Student Services and cc the counselor, explain what you did here about him being sick and turning it in the next class period, and that you emailed the teacher and assumed she had submitted a grade change form (even though you didn't hear back) but it doesn't look like that happened. Ask for it to be rectified. The DSS can change the grade on her end.

I think it’s the principle - your son earned an A. Why should he be marked down when his assignment wasn’t missing? The teacher is ridiculous for having an assignment due on the Tuesday the last week of school. And it’s ridiculous she ignored your email. Then again, my child’s teacher had a quiz on that Monday. Stupid.

Think of it this way - it’s a no if you don’t even try. There is no harm in following up - your son won’t ever have her again! Who cares what she or anyone thinks?

My husband and I are having this discussion here. My son had all A's all year, except for gym was a B for final quarter AND overall. He is annoyed, but its 8th grade and for gym I do not see a good reason to contact the principal over a crappy gym teacher. Your son went from an a to and a- in middle school. My opinion is that it is not worth the effort to try to correct. All teachers are on break now and not responding to emails

I'm stunned that a MS teacher had an assignment due during the last week of class. When I worked for FCPS grades were actually due during that week. Yes, the last few days of school were meaningless as grades were already turned in. My guess is that the teacher had already submitted grades by the time your son had turned in the assignment. Please follow up with the teacher. Yes, teachers are totally overworked but there is no excuse for teachers not replying to emails from parents. I've been dealing with this with multiple teachers at our HS. I am a teacher and I would never ever just not reply to a parent or student email but it seems to be happening more and more.

Middle School, let it go. Good for your son/you for being on top of things - consider it essential practice for high school. And for HS, yes, follow-up.

It's now a 50-100 scale with a 10 point differential between letters which is the same separation of grades if you used a 25 point differential and 0-100. So 50 is a failing grade. So done with this being an issue.

Because you can't do math. For the thousandth time, for whatever stupid reason this 100 point grading system was originally invented for, it really ended up only being used for the last 40 points of the scale for a grade above failing. The divisions of grades are incorrect for an even system. An A should be 100, B should be 75, C should be 50, D should be 25, and F should be zero if you want a full scale of 0-100, but that wasn't done. For some reason D was moved up to 60. Regardless of why, people realized that it was a flawed system that wasn't broken up correctly but instead of changing all the passing grades, they just made the floor 50 so A-D didn't have to change, which is perfectly acceptable when each other division is also 10 points.

Can we ever be done with this argument?
