Fall sports start in early August and teachers have to report back earlier than students. Moving All Stars to August would give these people one week or no weeks to take a vacation. This schedule does seem rushed and front loaded but I am not sure what the answer is.
I wonder how it would be affected if the schools went to a modified “year round” calendar with a summer break of 6 weeks or so.

Both FCPS and APS are now on the same schedule so the NVSL should adjust accordingly. The relay move is just dumb
They have adjusted to the reality that FCPS and APS now start well before Labor Day so that families and coaches want time off before switching into school mode. This was the feedback provided by team reps and coaches when they were scheduling. Teams can hold off on starting evening practices until after Memorial Day, and they can avoid scheduling a B meet before school lets out. That will cut down on some of the stress and overlap.
I do agree that NVSL could have kept relay carnival on July 5th, and families that are traveling simply miss the meet just as they would any other meet.
It would conflict with dive meets. Would that be an issue?
Why don't they just pick Thursday for the dive meet?

Can you imagine the drama when kids who are not on a relay this upcoming week are now faster than kids on that relay All Star relay week…with the one swimmer substitution allowance it is going to cause a lot of issues on many teams
There should not be any drama or issues here. The team that qualified should be the team that goes to All-Stars. Full stop. The sub should be used only if one of those kids can't attend. Totally irrelevant if the ladder changes later on.
I don’t disagree but the two week gap is just bad. This whole season is bad where you are having A meets before the school year is over. Move All Stars back a week to the first weekend in August. It isn’t a team event anyway so families can choose to do it or not without impacting their team
Team reps were surveyed and they preferred to not go into August.
Team Reps and Head Coaches do not like this schedule at all.
I’m going to guess that has to do with people’s vacation plans and the fact that there are club champs meets that weekend that would take away many of the top level swimmers from All Stars.
The majority did not want All-Stars in August.
Anonymous wrote:I get that the changing school calendar is an issue. IMO, NVSL should still have time trials the Sat after the last day of school, and the first meet the Sat after that. And whenever the swim season ends, it ends. Even if that’s August. I feel like it’s worse to start during the last week of school than end in the first week August. But no one asked me, LOL.
