Exactly. UCLA was grads with ultra strong work ethics. They'll be more successful. (At the risk of stating the obvious.). Smart is important, smart AND a demonstrated work ethic is the whole package.

Plenty of kids have no interest in sports or real ECs, but are happy to work 20+ hrs/week. It shows dedication and strong work ethic. Many kids cannot afford to do anything but work---if they want a car or to drive a car they have to pay gas and insurance, or for the vehicle itself. If they want to hang out at the movies, they need spending money. Nothing wrong with working rather than running the glee club or robotic club, if you have no interest in those
I suspect more colleges and universities will stress work experience during admissions. Especially now that USNWR will place more emphasis on career (working) placement promptly after graduation and ability to pay down debts. Don't be surprised when more schools emphasize genuine work at a job.

I realized from this thread 'Work Experience' is a standard factor in CDS.
Looks like most schools mark 'Considered' or 'Not Considered', but some of these schools mark 'Important'.
I have three kids.
One kid worked in HS, and I think the kid learned a lot about life skills in general that you can't really get form those normal school ECs.
This probably also will help success in college life.

Hard to fake it with a job. Most of the school clubs are kind of a joke, kids push to become club president but have minimal interest other than adding the title to their application. The honor societies are the worst, so little actual value other than pumping up the application.

I suspect this is the IG poster and is likely marketing. One of her posts names the most impressive AP classes to colleges and includes Human Geo, APES and Physics 1. She went by the lowest pass rates, which are not correlated (well maybe inversely for some) with being impressive to colleges. Lost all cred with me.

The CDS has work experience in the same grid as GPA, interviews, class rank, etc.
