The big deal is that it’s just not a big deal that warrants telling your own father how to take care of a 15 year old. Instead of just being happy that her kid and his grandfather were having a nice time, OP couldn’t regulate her need to manage some pointless situation about socks. THAT’S the big deal.

I’m someone with a 15 yr old son who doesn’t seem to mind if his feet stink or he does. We’ve always kept him clean when it was our responsibility and now that he is 15 seems not to care sometimes if he’s clean or not. It’s not fun but I do ask him about this stuff. He needs to be clean - I’d like to stop, he’d like me to stop but not enough to actually keep himself clean yet.

What you don't realize is the pictures were all staged on the first day. Your dad thought to prompt your son to change his clothes to look like different days but overlooked the socks. Your child has been sold into slavery and you don't even know it yet . Now that you can be annoyed about.

In your mind, how did you picture your dad broaching this with your son? It would have made him feel awkward. He's probably not used to telling his 13 year old grandson to change his socks.

I'm trying to imagine this situation with my teen nieces. "hey so uh, your mom noticed

Yes, you were out of line to make this request. Good for your dad for calling out your micromanaging. Pretend that it’s 1993 and there are no smart phones to send pictures everyday. All you know is that your kid is safe and having a good time with his grandfather. Be fine with that and move on.
