+1

Food is pretty pricey for what it is. Parking is horrible also.

+1. This.

If warm they have games in the back like bocce with view of the mountain. See it before they all are sold for townhomes!

If the government is shut down I assume Shenandoah will be closed?

Yes - Rock Creek was closed in the past when the government was shut down!
You need to look at State Parks.

Catoctin state park and then a short drive into Frederick that has a lot of good restaurants.

Cross anything close to or around Harpers Ferry off your list - the main arterial road into/out of the area (340) is shut down until December because they are resurfacing and shoring up rocks along the Potomac. It's adding about 1-2 hours onto commute times and it is a huge PITA for those of us who live in the area.

Sugarloaf has also been closed because of a break-in attempt and Stronghold has not posted when they expect to reopen the mountain for tourists/hiking.

Anonymous wrote:Probably closer to 1.5 hours from DC/NOVA but hike Mary's Rock and then head to Washington, VA and eat at Patty O's - check out the Inn at Little Washington and walk the grounds if you have not been there. Good day trip but doesn't take all day but you need to head out on the early side.

if you're heading out that way (great hiking, worth the 1.5 hour drive from C), you can also consider Rappahannock Pizza Kitchen in Sperryville. Nice selection of pizza and pasta dishes, great drinks (bar opens at 4 I believe) and a cute little store attached to buy food/snacks/wine/etc.

We went to Old Angler's Inn Memorial Day weekend.

It was extraordinarily expensive for the type of meals we received. $26 for a cheeseburger, and the portions of the entrees were not very generous. We'd come in from a 5 mile hike with teenagers and had to order extra food for them.

This may be a little more than an hour, away and I'm local to the area, but Weverton Cliffs and then a meal afterwards at Guidehouse Grill in Knoxville: http://www.guidehousegrill.com/ It's a local hole in the wall but the food is sourced from local farms and very, very good.

This is not a restaurant but you could do a bull run trail hike right next to paradise springs winery.

Bear’s Den, then eat at More Better or Bear Chase Brewery.
