Take everything you hear here, good and bad, with a huge grain of salt. Who knows if people here actually have kids and the school and, even if they do, they may have their own axe to grind or idiosyncratic views.

There's gotta be something illegal or unethical when the admin who is evaluating a teacher is the same person that is trying to squeeze 70-80 hrs per week out of them as well as getting teachers to fill their yellow form out to say 40. There is a conflict of interest.

Trust me, they would go to the movie night even if they were unhappy. I teach at a school with a similar community nearby and I love my students and would show up for them, but I'm deeply unhappy with the environment and culture of my school set by the admin down. It's condescending and only focused on test scores not actual kids. The admin rules by intimidation. Also, you have to go to a certain number of events to get a decent professionalism score on your evaluation.

There was a well attended movie night tonight and a bunch of teachers (and the principal) were there.

I can’t imagine they would do that on their own time if they weren’t generally happy.

Same here. I’m miserable at my school, as are many others. You wouldn’t know, however, because we keep that quietly among ourselves. We would never share our unhappiness with parents.

I couldn’t agree more—the new principal has been a disaster. The secretary left, and her replacement didn’t even last a year. That alone speaks volumes. The staff development teacher, who had been there since college, also left, along with several other teachers and the AP. I’ve heard nothing but negative things about this principal, and based on all these departures, it’s easy to see why.

Both.

Honestly, I think staff in all capacities (mcea, mcaap, seiu) are feeling the same way. It's a systemic issue that permeates throughout. No?

Both.

People don't want to be miserable, especially teachers who are good people. The culture is just toxic, without rules or punishments, and the punishments that are doled out are for teachers who have no structural support or defense against being manipulated.

I am warm and happy towards parents, but I absolutely HATE my school and plan to leave at year's end. Even the most involved parents would have no idea how nearly all teachers feel. You need to know someone on staff to really know. Fwiw, I know teachers in a few dozen schools across the country and none are happy. A few are just kind of "meh, it's a job". The rest are actively miserable.

What are you rambling about? School’s end product is always a result of community involvement and coordination. Everything for student behavior, accountability and resources. There is no lying and cheating only years of effort and sacrifices for generational progress. A society grows great when old men plant trees in whose shade they shall never sit. So interesting! I went to Wood Acres in the 1980s/1990s and I have very fond memories of that planetarium.
