Oh the drama! You know obesity is the #1 risk factor for death. Noting more harmful than obesity. Especially a 15 year old!
The OP is a good mother and is doing the right thing to save her daughters life.
Oy gevalt, nothing is more harmful than obesity?!?
Tell that to the bipolar disorder that killed my brother. Tell that to the cancer that killed my husband’s brother. Tell that to the heroin that killed my DSD’s best friend. Tell that to speeding that killed our neighbor’s teenager. Tell that to the gun and abusive ex who killed my best friend’s sister.
Me, I’m just a fat 51 year old who has outlived all of them.
Being a fat 51 year old after kids and menopause is much different than being an obese adolescent. Without medical intervention there is almost NO chance of ever being a healthy weight. I have been obese since I was about 8 years old and now because of Ozempic I am merely overweight. While the physical health toll and permanent damage of a lifetime of obesity is real, what is truly devastating is the psychological burden. I would guess there has not been a day in my life since I understood I was fat sometime in elementary school that I haven’t thought about my body and felt some kind of shame or grief about it. It stunted me emotionally, socially, professionally and romantically. I am a proponent of body- and fat-neutrality and believe no one should ever be treated poorly or differently for the size of their body. I will never stop defending the right of fat adults to exist in their bodies just as they are. But we simply have to intervene for children. They can decide once they are adults if they are okay existing in a fat body and all that comes with it.

Saxenda is a daily injection but the needles are small and don’t hurt - it may take longer to see significant weight loss and the daily regimen may feel cumbersome.
A poor analogy is Saxenda is a 2015 Camry, dependable and gets the job done, and Wegovy is the fast, flashy 2024 BMW.
Mounjaro is the 2024 BMW. Ozempic is more like the Camry—but maybe a 2019. Saxenda is like a 2005 Focus.

We've tried everything this is a last resort
What are the medical professionals you already hired saying? Clearly they don’t agree that this is the correct path.

I wish I had an option like Wegovy back then - it’s amazing medication and it helps regulate hormones and bodily functions that don’t currently function normally. Just like some people need meds to control high BP or cholesterol.
Definitely seek out providers who are knowledgeable and understand the titration regimen and how to manage potential side effects.
Many of us on these medicines are also implementing lifestyle changes that felt impossible 30, 40, 50, 80 pounds ago due to joint pain and poor muscle strength.
Wishing you and your child all the best!
Who do you see for the mounjaro?
