So you've thought about this.

Yes, cupcakes! Post-Covid, it's gross to have your kid blow out the candles on a whole cake you're going to feed to other people. Give him his own cupcake with candles in it to blow his germs all over, and then pass out cupcakes!

But if you're doing cake, I've mostly seen dads cut them at parties. There's no rule that moms have to wield that knife!

Let me put it this way, my DH did not jump up and cut the cake. He didn't pick it out at the grocery store either.

We do cupcakes because neither DH nor I like cutting the cake.

That's such a good idea.

My DH bakes the cake so he cuts it.

This is the way. Get all the kids to the table, sing, drop the tray of cupcakes in the middle. Done.

I grew up in a pretty traditional household and I just saw my dad cut and serve his own birthday cake two days ago.

It's once a year per child. Not a big deal no matter who does it.

my husband is very good at cutting things evenly (weird talent), so he always does it. He also pre-scoops ice cream and freezes on a cookie sheet so it's easy to do when kids are waiting.
