In turn, I limit activities the week prior (no parties, no indoor play places, play dates etc) to try and prevent kids getting sick and ruining the trip.
Well a good friend is having a bday party for her child the weekend before we leave. She doesn’t work but her child is in full time daycare as are the class friends that’ll be in attendance (we talk often and know he’s literally always sick with something or another). I told her point blank we can’t come because we don’t want to risk the kids getting sick. Now she isn’t speaking to me.
I feel bad but am I the only one that does this?? I feel it’s smart but also understand full time working with kids in daycare people go on vacations all the time without a hitch.
This was an odd detail to include.
I would just have made up a conflict. I think your explanation implies this group is very germy compared to your kid.
I think you’re being a little obtuse here. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with daycare. But there’s no denying that daycares are breeding grounds for germs. We all write here complaining about it year round.

It’s really rude of her to act like she is entitled to demand your appearance at her party. If it was that important to her, she could’ve checked with you before setting the date. Invitations can be declined.

Your kids sound little and you must not work. The rest of the world moved on a long time ago. We don’t even wear masks now.
OP. I’m not worried about Covid! We haven’t worn masks since they were no longer mandatory (maybe why we’ve had it three times now lol). More like stomach bugs, ear infections, etc. I’d like to avoid if possible.
Anyway, I guess I am more neurotic than most of you, which is fine. I asked for honesty after all!
Ear infections are not contagious, fyi.

Anonymous wrote:OP. Fair enough. I’ll take the weirdo title. But to be clear they aren’t kept indoors - they still play outside and in the pool all day etc but we just avoid germy places like parties and indoor play places.
