Seems like it would be helpful to have a forum that is for people in their 30s, 40s and 50s to discuss issues related to their older relatives and loved ones, but to also have one that is for people in their 50s + to discuss issues related to their own retirement. There are many aspects of retirement that don't easily fall into other categories.

I know the primary DCUM demographic often has trouble comprehending that there are people from all walks of life here because it's such a great website and not just other people like them. I'm a retiree but I am also many other things including a mom who raised her kids in the DC area. I could be wrong but I don't think it bothers Jeff to have such a diversified group of DCUM devotees.

There was a midlife concerns forum that lots of us really liked (apparently not enough of us). It covered lots of topics that could have been answered elsewhere, but with care and without the ageism and hag name calling etc. It was then re-launched as something that became Elder issues.

Issues faced by retirees or by those who are wondering about their elder loved ones in retirement have little or nothing to do with Mid Life or with Elder Care.

On the other hand, Jeff could rename that forum Midlife Concerns, Eldercare, and Retirement

I don't want a Retirement forum because I think it's already covered in different forums in different ways -- Money and Finance for retirement planning and budgeting, Midlife issues, the relationship forums for social aspects, and so on. I think a separate forum would tend to confuse things when technically all the issues related to retirement are clearly covered by other forums.

BUT

I would like to suggest that DCUM add a label or hashtag features so that when someone starts a thread, they can add some keywords or topics that might make it easier to find via Search, or to know if a thread is of interest at a glance in Recent topics.

That way people could add labels like #retirement or #mentalhealth or whatever, and it would help address these issues that span forums but are also of particular interest to certain readers. Plus anything that would make the Search function more, uh, functional.
