There goes my diabetes theory. As a sidenote, I didn’t know they could search your personal belongings.
They probably asked and the sub said yes. Or it was already visible. Seems like given the situation, it was handled pretty well. Sub didn't go beyond the main office, so minimal contact with students, and admin arranged a ride home/off-campus so there was no belligerent scene if he had refused to leave.
Seriously, the low pay for subs is a huuuuuuge issue. I walked into Lidl yesterday and there was a hiring sign with a starting wage of $17.50, and I bet there you even get a discount. It used to be a great gig for many people-- prospective teachers trying to get their foot in the door or exploring different grades/subjects, retired teachers who missed the classroom on occasion, SAHP who were teachers somewhere else and want a few days of work here and there with no commitment, SAHP who were never teachers but want the same thing, even immigrants with professional qualifications in their home countries but haven't landed permanent employment in the US yet. But now it's not worth the effort and trouble for only $19something an hour.
The county HAS to raise this wage--the shortage is real and students are directly affected.
