Italians use the internet too. Restaurants with websites with a ‘Prenota’ are becoming common. To say that it is a sign that a restaurant isn’t “worth visiting” is silly. And Rome is an international city. I wouldn’t even necessarily assume that a restaurant with a website with online reservations in English is a cheesy tourist trap.

Decades ago I hitchhiked around Italy with my boyfriend and we got the most amazing sandwiches at gas stations!

Colline Emiliane - wonderful fresh pasta. It’s in the Michelin guide. We went with Italian friends and had wonderful service but I’ve read reviews from Americans who said service was rude. You can email for reservations from their website.

Osteria Quarantaquatro (44) — has online reservations. Amazing food. Not as pretty inside as my other recommendation.

Both kind of nearish to the Palazzo Barberini.

We didn’t make reservations ahead of time when we visited last July.

We did end up finding great places and ate early or late. One of our best dinners was at 9pm at a place in Monti. Another favorite was able to seat us as a walk-in at 5. After dinner we took a two-hour meandering walk and stopped for gelato and drinks.

Fuorinorma for a sandwich. Not remotely kidding.

Any recommendations for near the Termini train station and/or the Colosseum? Thank you for any suggestions or advice!

Either you have really low standards or you don’t know Rome. There is plenty of crappy food to be had. That’s precisely why people are asking for recommendations.

Not Rome, but we were in Florence and Milan and had a couple subpar meals. Just because you’re in Italy doesn’t guarantee it’s going to be too-notch. In fairness, we also had some amazing meals.

However one day it started pouring rain and I cut down a random alley way and there was a cute little restaurant so I popped in and it was by far one of the best places I've eaten anywhere. So remember to take chances sometimes too!
