It's highly unlike grocery stores are deliberately trying to pass off expired foods, especially fresh items. In addition to regular inspections by licensing officials, it's a ding on their reputation and consumers are more likely to shop elsewhere.

Whenever you buy something, you should check it for expiration, damage, problems, etc. Doesn't matter if it food, medicines or plants.

I think richest neighborhood supermarkets get the best and freshest products.
What do you think?

I guess I’m poor, because I think all of those stores are too expensive.

Greedy food companies raised prices too high and people literally aren’t buying. And greedy grocery stores dont pay employees enough so they dont have enough staff to rotate stock.

This is true for me. I have cut back so much and buying cheaper stuff because everything is ridiculously high. I miss Trump.

BTW, I returned them to Giant and suggested they check the shelf for more expired boxes of them. But they didn't seem to really care.

Hard to believe such a processed food would be rancid after 2 months

It's been happening frequently to me at Whole Foods recently.

Yeah, you especially have to be careful of items that are on sale. For example I was going to stock up on a certain type of chips my kids like because they were on sale but only bought one bag because the expiration date was so near.

I'm just not sure they even care really.

Most of those expiration dates are artificial and unrelated to food safety.

You should get a discount, though.

Safeway never had quality control. They've been selling expired items, forever. I always check the expiration date and once picked up an item that expired 2 years ago. Have not had that issue at Harris Teeter, yet. Speaking of expensive, in Oakland, 1 bottle of Sriracha is 24.99!

It’s been like this for years. Guess you just noticed now.

Giant in VA will tell you flat out it's not against the law to sell expired food and they DO NOT pull it.
