Not OP, but PP you just confirmed what OP was pointing out. The comparison to Americans not knowing that Sudan is worlds away from South Africa geographically is the same as someone in South Africa not knowing that Canada is incredibly far away from Mexico, not that Phoenix is far away from Atlanta. In many countries kids study world maps and world geography, and that is something we are a little weak on in the US.
