Do your kids have cavities? Teeth health is important to me. This is one thing i was a real stickler about as a parent early on and now it’s just their habit. They don’t object or complain or even question it.

I still brush my 5.5 year old’s teeth twice a day. I’ll probably keep doing it for a few more years since I don’t trust him to do it properly.

I think elementary school kids need help brushing until you are 100 % they can do it themselves. Also flossing. Teeth are so precious.

My kid brushes her teeth twice a day herself, but I floss them for her (she lies down in bed with her head in my lap). If I am ever concerned she didn't brush well enough, I can have her re-do it, but she actually does a good job. I also have her swish with mouthwash once or twice a week. She is 6. I'll keep flossing for her until she has at the dexterity to do it herself. To be honest, I wish someone else would floss for me because I find it much easier to floss someone else's teeth than my own.

This is what I have heard too, specifically from a pediatric dentist. I actually help my older child too sometimes since she just won’t do a good job herself (mental health issues) and teeth are too important to risk having problems with at a young age.

Per my dentist, you help them floss daily until they are 9-11 and help them brush the back teeth daily until a similar age.

Our dentist said, You let them brush their teeth when you would trust them to wash a plate. For her, this was age 8.
TBH I still don't think my 9YO does the greatest job, but I am done with it. And actually, I never did it in the morning--just night.

Twice a day 3 and 7 year old. We were bad at flossing and my oldest needed 4 fillings and a crown!!! Dentist said her brushing was good judging by the plaque levels on the outside but lack of flossing the back made for fertile ground for bacteria. And its the crackers and goldfish that are the worst not necessarily the candy (which we limit anyway) per my dentist.
