If the GoFundMe is asking for money đź’µ to pay for his treatment for cancer yet he continues to smoke, then no I would not donate a red cent to his cause.

However if someone is soliciting donations online to pay for hospice care - then I may donate depending.

Because if a person is terminal anyway, then the decision on whether they choose to smoke or not is their personal choice I suppose.

Just take a couple of bags of groceries to their house.

How exactly does your family know that you haven’t contributed?

I didn't contribute to my brother's go fund me. My Dad literally pays their salaries and they didn't help him when he didn't pay himself or help when he had surgery so they get no money or tears from me.

He’s likely going to die so it doesn’t matter whether he quits smoking or not, at least not with respect to the lung cancer. You could contribute to help him access medical care to ease his pain or to contribute to their expenses. He’s already being punished for his poor decisions; why do you need to be a sanctimonious twat now? For what purpose?

Same reason you don’t give $$$ to panhandlers. People, no matter how wealth, don’t want to throw money away. Each week this person is spending almost $150 on cigarettes. I wouldn’t give either.

No. If you want to give them something, send a card and a gift card for a family dinner out at a local restaurant. Give the wife a break and let them do something normal without the cancer being the center for a minute.

It’s not about him, OP. Your poor cousin is the harried caregiver of a dying loser who is sucking her out of any happiness and all money for retirement.

Donate for your cousin’s sake, not him.

NP. This is very perceptive. You're donating so your cousin has $50 extra to buy groceries after everything else has been drained for his medical care. And you're donating to let your cousin know you care about her.

This is your family member, for crying out loud. Help them and don’t judge.

Just wait and donate to the funeral.
