Yep, you should see how dressed up the first gen immigrant families are at the graduations for the selective nyc high schools. Many of them dress like they would for a wedding in their home country. For them, this is their American dream.

To be fair, though, Stuy's graduation is at Carnegie Hall (or at least has been for years). No one is wearing shorts to that.

How do you know what McLean moms wear?

I wear a shirtdress but I love wearing them in general.

Our large public is outside on the field and we sit in the bleachers, I will be wearing shorts and bringing water - it is early in the am.

Our school did it indoors with AC, so an office appropriate dress and pumps.

Whatever you feel like been seen in framed in your house.

I've had four graduates since 2013, and each child's graduation was held at different venues. I wore a dress/work attire to each.

My oldest son's graduation was very casual, and I was alarmed at how the attendees dressed (shorts, halter tops, jeans etc). My daughter went to private school so her graduation was held in a church and attendees dressed accordingly. My third son's graduation was at Constitution Hall, and attendees were mostly dressed in work/church attire. Sadly, my youngest graduated during the pandemic so there was no ceremony.

As much as I like fashion, I agree with the other comments that the focus should be 100% on the graduate. I am a person who will buy a new outfit at the the drop of a hat. However, for their graduations, I pulled something out of the closet.

Obviously. But we got an email reminding kids that it’s a formal event and it occurred to me I should put some thought into what I wear.

Public graduations aren't any different than privates. So weird to think they are.

Maybe that’s the case at the Langley HS graduation. At normal high school graduations, people wear all kinds of things.
