How about the college-aged kid who gets to sleep so late texts you asking what THEY can make YOU for lunch, since you are working? They sound lazy.

I'm always offering my grown kids food during their visits. I love spoiling them like old times. If I'll have health and money, probably will spoil their spouses and grandkids as well.

Why are they “home” and not working? They should have internships or summer jobs, every summer, during college. No excuses.

Have you and your spouse taught them to cook? Yes or no. If not, this is the summer you teach them the basics.

Simple. Do not answer non-emergency texts from your kids at work.
My 4 kids know not to text/call me unless it’s really necessary.
I manage several employees and and shocked/annoyed by some of the working moms whose kids seem to think they have an open line to their mom all day long.
Women- this does not help you look professional at work in front of your managers For your own good, future raises and promotions, please separate work and home. I work on compensation with executive Management, and they (often wrongly) view these employees with less status, since that’s what they perceive every day with several moms.

Op, hands-off: consider that it increases the likelihood of having future Grandchildren. Competent adults are better marriage-material!

What happened last summer when he was 19? And before that? Did he ever make his own lunch?

My kids are 13 and 15 and have been doing this for awhile now. Nothing gourmet but they can make quesadillas and pastas with various sauces, etc.

Of course you aren't the A, but maybe you should have laid out the expectations years ago.

Lol. In hs I (Woman) was regularly responsible for planning, shopping for and cooking meals for my fam. Meanwhile, in hs my brother regularly placed “orders” with our mom and was treated like a wounded kitten who would starve if not hand fed.

Your kid can manage! If they haven’t been taught how, buy them a cookbook geared toward collage students and new cooks. There’s absolutely no reason why they can’t feed themselves.

There's food in the kitchen. Figure it out.

NTA. I might offer to make what I'm making for lunch if they are around, but that's about it. I'm not a short-order cook or a personal servant.

I just tell my DS if there isn't anything in the house he wants for lunch, then he better go shopping with me and pick out what he wants, or better yet, go on his own.
