Is this a one time move? Or is the idea now to make it the second week of the season?
Calm down Janet. It's 1 week and in reality makes no difference at all.
NP. It does make a difference. NVSL is run by older types that have become quite removed from little kids or teams that are not made up of record breaking kids that swim club.
No it doesn't - not materially. It's a week, not a month and all the teams are dealing with the same constraint.
You swim with the team you have, not the team you wish you had.
Moving everything up so as not to have anything NVSL impacts the team. There is less practice time and more conflicts with school events. Teams that are made up of club swimmers, it doesn't impact them greatly. It does impact teams that need several weeks to get kids back in shape.
Anonymous wrote:I will say for my kid yes, making relay carnival ignited the love of swimming at age 7. We didn't even know relay carnival existed and then the team made the all stars and that was a huge excitement that sealed the decision to join a club team.

They're going to take over this board, ugh. I could not be a bigger fan of summer swim... it literally changed my life... but some NVSL parents that post here are truly nuts. Their kids must be embarrassed by them.
+1, I have a club swimmer whose love of swimmer started with summer league (not NVSL) and I cannot get over that there are adults fretting over whether their team can put together a legal 8 and under relay team early in the season.
I fret about it. Because when my kid was an 8&U making that team and doing it legally was huge. I remember the pride and the foundation for a love of swimming. If you don't have the kiddos that can do it, then you have just lost that experience for those four kiddos.

Rookie mistake on my end for not double checking the date before I made the trip plans.
I think it’s a pain that time trials are while school is in session and the first meet is the day after school gets out.
But it is what it is.
Time trials and the first meet are both on a Saturday. Pro tip, even before the official end of the school year, schools really have no bearing on what you and your kids choose to do on Saturdays.

We don’t have school plans but I don’t consider it summer until school is out.
