Yes because there are restrictions until it resolves. If you don't follow them, it can cause bleeding which would be terrifying.
It's not "bad news" for a patient to deal with -- it's important information with clear instructions.

I’m a PP who rescheduled work travel because of mine. Yes, I’m glad I knew! If I had not known, I would have travelled potentially putting myself and my baby at risk. Similarly, if anything had happened I’m naturally a wait and see kind of person so I might not have reached out to medical care immediately if I had any bleeding or spotting. Knowing the condition allowed me to make better more informed decisions about my own health. I think it’s very important that doctors share their full understanding of the patient’s medical condition with them! My OB was quite reassuring that most placenta previas resolved on their own and was clear about what I needed to do/watch out for and what steps would be taken if it didn’t resolve. This is exactly how it should have been conveyed in my opinion.
OP here. I’m glad I know too (though the restrictions are maddening), just wish the doctor had been a bit more reassuring. She also ended up putting “complete placenta previa” in my chart and then fought me/spoke down to me when I asked why it was coded that way. At one point she told me that all placenta previas were considered “complete” and she didn’t know why I was obsessing over that one word. After I asked to speak to a different doctor in the unit and told her I was taking notes, shockingly, my chart was corrected within an hour.
…I am looking for a new practice that doesn’t work with this hospital.
OP, I had similar criteria (abutting) and was diagnosed with marginal previa. Good luck and hope it resolves!

I just posted above and mine did not resolve in weeks, it took the entire pregnancy. We could not have sex the entire time.
also my OB told me to stop any high impact activities and strength training.

I just posted above and mine did not resolve in weeks, it took the entire pregnancy. We could not have sex the entire time.

Mine resolved at 38 weeks!! They were trying to schedule me for a C-section, but I demanded one last scan. I had a perfectly healthy vaginal birth.

Intercourse can trigger bleeding, so, yeah, you need to be informed.

Long story short, it was completely resolved by my 36 week scan and no issue.
Interesting your Dr included that restriction. I was told pelvic rest but fine to carry 2.5yo as normal.
