Lewinsville Montessori on Great Falls st in McLean.

Caution - it and a non-Montessori school both lease space from Fairfax County. Same building but has 2 different schools plus the senior center.

I'm a current parent at ToTH Montessori in Navy Yard and they are opening an infant classroom in early 2025. We've been very happy with our experience at the school (my child is in one of the toddler classrooms).

Lewinsville Montessori on Great Falls street in McLean/Tysons starts at 3 months. Most kids leave at K either to go to public school K or to a K-12/K-8 private. Not a lot of Montessori before age 2 of course. Has 2 fenced playgrounds, one for younger kids and one for older kids. Operates 12 months, nit 9 months, so especially good if both parents work.

It rents space from the county. A different non-Montessori is in the same bldg. Very important not to confuse the 2 schools.

Montessori curriculum was developed largely with the infant in mind per The Absorbant Mind by Maria Montessori.

Franklin Montessori School has a program starting at the infant age. They have a separate two year old program preceding the 3-6 classroom.

You really need to do your research. The infancy program is in line with the AMI standard of Montessori. If we are going to get technical, the only real age level montessori worked with and created a system for was 3-6 (casa dei Bambini).
Her earliest research was around brain development in infancy (see The Absorbent Mind). Her son, Mario Montessori developed the elementary materials, and a team of educators worked on the upper curriculum while they were in exile in India.
One could even argue that Montessori wasn't the founder of her own methods, as she "borrowed" from many of her contemporaries and sold it as her own. The bottom line, is do your own research as there are no regulating bodies in Montessori. ANYONE can use her name. The infancy program has a huge following in Mexico, and they are rare here, but do exist....but are hard to find because they are expensive to run. A lot of schools don't find toddler lucrative, let alone infancy.

Very rare in the DC metro area to find a certified infant program, certified by AMI that is. Much more popular in other parts of the country. I think it's because it involves the parents spending time there, with the child. It's more of an education for the parents, and around here, lots of two working parents and more of a need for a daycare setting. I do see toddler program though, which begin at 18 mos and they do not need to be potty trained. Then they transition when they are trained to the primary class, 2.5 - 6.

I'm looking for one in the Vienna/Oakton area. Anyone know of any Montessori type infant programs there?

Family Academy of Bethesda has an infant program and pre-primary and kindergarten programs. Let me correct myself, they take infants and they do have the Montessori program from 2 1/2 years and older. Maybe they do have an Infant toddler room too. If they have it it has to be good as I have my 4 year old in the pre-primary and I know the work they do. They are on Montgomery Ave , Bethesda.
