I will absolutely be wearing my Hokas with sundresses in Paris and Rome this summer. No way am I risking blisters or feet that hurt when I have a lot to do in limited time. I’ve tried Toms, Vans and Born so far and nothing else is as comfortable, so I’m willing to sacrifice a bit of fashion for comfort.

I just got back from Greece and Italy, and many, many women were wearing more supportive, athletic-style sneakers with skirts and dresses. You won't be "out of fashion."

Yes. You will.

But who cares?

Seriously - have any of these people been to Europe? You can't wear sneakers after a certain time. Unless you are wearing cut off jean shorts and crop top. Ugh Americans.

I wore Dansko canvas Mary Janes and Keen Malibu sandals all over Europe one summer and loved them both.

My Teva sandals are very comfortable for walking. Get the ones with a little extra cushion in the sole. They come in lots of colors.

You have to buy an insole for Vans- they are flat. I wore some last year on a trip thinking they were comfortable and I killed my feet and got a bout of plantar fasciitis. They’re comfy for shorter events.

I love the looks of Vans but I really don't understand how people do a lot of walking in them! I've found Cariumas - which I guess had a hot moment of being trendy - are MUCH more comfortable for lots of walking. They are light as air, and the insole is so supportive.

Dr. School’s Shoes. Super cute styles, great for walking around Europe. Super comfortable. Check them out, they are doing some collaborations with upscale designers. I love their sneakers and slip ons. A revelation.

Anyone have any ideas for something other than a sneaker?

Vionic, especially their beach casual or slip-on sneakers. They are light, but give enough support. They come in a number of colors and patterns that work with both pants and skirts
