I heard that back in the 60s and 70s the public schools in the Lake Barcroft were among the best and wealthiest in all of FCPS. The crew team even won the Henley Royal Regatta.

There’s still a contingent of wealthy kids from the Lake who go to the public schools. It’s probably under 50% though. Feel free to correct if wrong.

Many parents select private school options (of which there are many within reasonable distance). If that is your path for your kids, the area offers tremendous value.

Lake Barcroft is very beautiful, but like the other neighborhoods, is surrounded by the most unattractive suburban sprawl. There are a some exceptions: The Moasic is a nice commercial neighborhood close to Holmes Run Acres. Lake Barcroft is not far from the attractive commercial areas in the City of Falls Church and Arlington. Hollin Hills is near Old Town Alexandria. Reston of course has the famed European inspired Lake Anne Plaza.


If you think Mantua is not popular, you haven't[ been looking for houses recently. Nothing they're under a million right now and they are being snapped up within days. Also unlike the other neighborhoods you mentioned, the schools are excellent.

I lived in Lake Barcroft over 10 years. I liked my house, liked my neighbors, but increasingly started disliking the surrounding area, especially the traffic and near complete lack of transit.

I ended up moving because of a business transfer.

Don’t a handful of Congressional grads go on to Justice HS for their highly regarded IB diploma program every year? Or that was the case, but not sure about now.
