I would have him order the Justice Department to open criminal investigations into each case in which a woman has been denied care since Roe v. Wade in direct contradiction of the instructions of the federal government that lifesaving care must still be provided. I would have had him say more than one sentence about abortion during the state of the union.

I would have had him propose legislation in the lame duck session to codify Roe and out every one of these “moderate republicans” on record ahead of their reelection.

I would have had him order every federal
agency to provide a risk-mitigation plan for federal employees who might find themselves ordered to work in states where they cannot access healthcare.

Where is the middle on guns? I see NO GOP legislating for a middle ground. All unfetted access with NO background checks or other restrictions.

I could go on, but there is no middle we can all live with where the current GOP is concerned.

I’d like to think that there are a lot of Americans like me who would give up some political goals that are important to them in order to re-establish a middle in this country.

Women are already experiencing “not getting what we want” from the current President on abortion. That’s what is getting lost here— we’re already in the compromise. Joe Biden is a centrist whose beliefs on abortion are far to the right of many women and much of his party. Running even more conservative candidates is not a compromise and does not move the country to the middle.

I don’t blame Biden for the SCOTUS ruling, but I don’t think he has done nearly enough on this issue since. Pretending to think he’s blameless while

Except Manchin has been torpeoding Biden proposals to protect his personal coal interests. That is not a democrat or GOP issue, it is just plain corruption.

I want women to be in absolute control of their bodies. There is no middle ground on this.

If you truly want “the middle” then make an effort to implement ranked choice voting. That’s how NYC elected a moderate former policy officer for Mayor over a slate of progressives.

That’s how Alaska elected a moderate Democrat to the House.

Manchin will re-elect Trump (or install DeSantis) if he runs. The GOP has a rock-solid 46% of the vote. That ain’t changing to vote for someone moderate. But plenty of people who would vote Democrat because they don’t like Trump and the GOP will happily vote No Labels. That’s all we need to get the job done.
