My kids have taken HPE through both VVA and FCPS in the past 2 summers. Last year I had one in HPE9 through VVA and one in HPE10 through FCPS. And this summer I will have one in HPE10 through FCPS. Here is a breakdown of my experience with both programs:
Both programs are super easy. Neither requires anywhere close to 6 hours of class work per day. It is more like 30-60 mins (not including physical activity).
VVA: there is a synchronous meet time which lasts about 30-45 mins but you do NOT have to attend in person as long as you watch the recording by the end of the day (teacher will know if you have logged in), so you can do the classwork at your own time. Perfect for kids with challenging summer schedules. HPE10 does NOT include Driver Ed so if you do this, you will need to pay for the classroom instruction on your own dime. You need to have a counselor or teacher at your home school to be your "mentor" but don't let them fool you - they don't actually have to do any work. It is an extremely low time commitment for them. There is no check in with your mentor or anything like that. The physical activity component of VVA is WAY easier than FCPS. just fill out a daily log and submit - fewer required minutes than FCPS and no restrictions on activity.
FCPS: you must attend the daily synchronous meet time every day. if you miss logging in to more than 2 synchronous sessions you are automatically unenrolled from the class. And they mean it. Classwork is extremely easy. There is more physical activity required for each day than VVA and there are restrictions on activity (i.e., you can log 60 minutes of swim every day). You also have to submit your heart rate through a Fitbit or phone heart rate monitor. HPE9 and HPE 10 include all requirements for the VA Standards - First Aid/CPR for 9 and Driver Ed for 10.
Overall Opinion - VVA is better for HPE9 and FCPS is better for HPE 10

The above was me replying to a question about how I knew the times for online campus (not VV) didn’t work. So I was talking about the times for online campus.

The above post is incorrect for Virtual Virginia. People on here are still conflating FCPS Online Campus and Virtual Virginia Summer Learning.
The times for VV Summer PE are either 10:30-11 or 11-11:30. You have your counselor sign you up for the time and cohort (start date) that you desire. Apparently not all counselors are willing--it was no big deal for our counselor at Oakton.
