When my dad went to prison for a year he just had his housekeeper stay on to manage the house and the apartment in the city. That way he didn’t have to move any stuff and it was there when he was released 12 or so months later.

I know some city animal shelters will take in dogs and cats for people who are incarcerated and will care for them. If the jail term is long, often the owners will relinquish the pets so they can be adopted out to a new home. Same for the pets of homeless people who have to go into hospital. Not every shelter is so accomodating.

OMG. Do you misunderstand conversations a lot? They’re talking about your stuff back at your house/apartment. The clothes not on your body, your possessions, furniture, etc.

Hopefully you can call your mother or your bestie or your next-door neighbor and beg them to help. Leave a key by the back door and go meet your neighbors and exchange numbers. Just in case.

What about pets? Say, god forbid, I got involved in some crime while I was out with my dog. Or if my dog was at home. I live alone and my dog is my family. If I found myself in jail for something, who knows what what, what happens to my dog? And what if I’m innocent but need to wait a trial but ultimately found innocent, who takes care of my dog and can I get her back? That’s literally all I would care about

What a pedantic response. People are discussing what happens to someone's house/who pays the bills, etc. when someone is incarcerated.

Presumably if I were in jail for a long time, my spouse would pay the bills like normal. If he couldn't maintain the house without my income, I assume he would use the power of attorney document to sell the house and sign closing documents for me.

Hopefully people have family who can handle this stuff for them if they are in jail.
