OP, I live in NYC. If I just got into my car parked on the street and someone pulls up behind to take my spot, I'll have the passenger gesture and tell them "it's gonna be a few." Then I connect the phone and crank up the GPS. After it all set, I pull out. If am in a parking lot, I tend to back out so the person can have the spot, then pull over and do the above.

Phones add time. And yes, some folks hop in their car, turn on the engine, and start making calls. I wouldn't do it, but it is what it is.

This is the correct answer- wave them on, especially if they are an angry insurrectionist looking man in a lifted truck. My sense of spatial relation is poor and I am not a confident backer upper (even with a camera.) You seem too close and I am not going to be sweaty and stressed because you want to avoid walking. My favorite is jockeying for a parking spot at the gym.

I legitimately am posting on DCUM at times. Or finding a podcast to listen to in the car.

I used to go to my car and nap during my lunch hour when I was exhausted from pregnancy.

I used to breastfeed or pump.

And, I’m not leaving my space for you.

My new office has surface parking by permit only. I’m especially not leaving if you are a scofflaw trying to get to the nearby medical office.

Buckling kid in, debating where to eat, putting direction, doing online orders of things i couln’t find in store, setting up jams.

I think there was a study that showed people take longer to pull out when they know someone is waiting for their spot.

PP and I’m likely getting a barrage of emails and texts when I get to my car - most all of my worksites have awful internet connectivity.

I return any urgent calls them like another PP, I’m figuring out how to get to my next stop (I do audits and inspections and worksite trainings) via my GPS.

Also, on hot days, I’m cooling down my car and eating a snack before on the road.

I don’t look at my phone at all when I’m driving.

Texting with my husband to see if he’s going to be able to pick our daughter up bc while I was in the store I got a text calling me into a work emergency. Mystery solved!
