He ruins most movies for me and yet for decades he was in everything.

This is why I had to stop watching it. It was tired and overdone with all the bitter, miserly, grumpy man tropes.

It wasn’t bad but I felt the same. Not one of TH’s best movies.

Why did they change the name from Ove to Otto?

Because Ove is an unfamiliar name to American audiences. It's pronounced with a U sound not an O sound (I only know because I listened to the audio book) so the producers probably wanted something more common.

Didn't like the book. Ove was a horse's ass to everyone his entire life. Miserly, crotchety, and an embarrassment to his wife. So much so that there is no explanation for a living breathing woman to put up with his nonsense, so she's already dead when the book starts.

Then he decides to be a halfway decent human to a small number of people for a short amount of time before he himself dies -- yet 300+ people come to the funeral and mourn him? No way.

I liked it a lot but the book was better. Fredrik Backman's Beartown series is great. He is probably my favorite contemporary European author.

I really enjoyed it! Had me in tears a couple of times.

Makes me think of some sweet older neighbors, and how much those relationships me to me…and hopefully to them.

I liked the book. Watched the movie today, and I won't lie, I cried a couple times.

I liked the book better, it had more backstory and was lighter. I thought it worked better being in Sweden than in the USA. But it was ok.
