Toggles are dated and look old. It is one of those things that younger buyers notice in homes as a "dated" item. It is always recommended to update your switches and outlets.

You can now add USB and USC outlets and smart toggle switches (even for ceiling fans) that you can set on schedules, etc. Smart switches are amazing.

I have a 1940s colonial and have all toggle switches - I think rockers would look out of place.

I did replace all the old toggle switches with new ones and also replaced the switch plates with more current look ones.

This makes no sense. The junction box and wall plate are the same size. Rockers stick out less from the wall.

I like the rockers with the slider on the side. They’re just easier. I can see how they might look “wrong” in some houses? Honestly I think both are the same aesthetically so just pick the one you like.

Rockers look more modern and are easier to operate.

If replacing switches, do consider a few smart switches like Lutron Caseta, which can help with security by making the house look occupied even when it is not. I use them on switches which control outdoor lighting, setting those lights to come on at dusk and to turn off at daybreak, year-round. The app accounts for changes in sunrise and sunset throughout the year, with no additional programming.

I prefer toggle. Most of my switches are multiple like 3 or 4. So when i leave a room i can easily swipe my hand and turn off or on them in one swipe. Rockers i have to push each one separately and it ticks me off. I also prefer in the dark or for guests that its easier to find the switch and how to push it, i still think people are not accustom to pushing a switch in the dark, even if it is lite up.

I have also come to prefer that Rockers look cheaper than toggle these days, and you can get some good toggles.

I know, right! I guess I’m behind the times because so far I haven’t had a need for anything smart in my house! The dimmers and dusk to dawn bulbs still seem to be working for me. Although I do have porch cameras.

I’m even more behind the times because I don’t even know what a smart switch is!

Definitely update all to rocket switch.

I'm currently changing all my old toggles to rockers. Rockers are simply prettier and I like the mechanism.
