+1. No money and parents were immigrants who knew nothing about the educational system here much less study abroad. I really did not start traveling until late 20’s and have not looked back since then. Hence, why I married and had a child later in life.

I plan on encouraging DS to study abroad for sure in college if he is interested. I don’t have a lot regrets but this is one. He might even get a chance to do it in high school.

That I didn't go scuba diving at the Great Barrier Reef. I was only recently certified and this was going to be my first major dive outside of New England area (where I was certified). I was young and just psyched myself out. I went snorkeling instead, which was still amazing. But I wish I had done the full thing.

I'll also echo what 2354 said. I have traveled all over the world since I was 16. I've been to places and seen and done things I never imagined. But as I near 40, I've been thinking about how little I've seen of the US. My US experience has been all of the East Coast, Ohio, and a couple Southern states for competitions in college.

That it took me so long to realize how gorgeous this country is. I spent my 20s going to Europe at every occasion. Im 40s now and my kids are now older elem and im trying to get as much as I can at our own national parks. I had no idea. It’s so embarrassing.

I took my 4th grader to Europe for a long trip last year and frankly I regret it. It wasn’t as good or enriching time as I imagined. My usually intellectually curious kid burned out on museums/history faster than expected and spent most of the trip grouchy. Should have waited another couple years.

I had a friend living in Australia and one in Mali and I regret never visiting them.

My study abroad semester was cheaper than my home university!

Alone!! It was a group trip so there were other people. He had also asked his cousin but he said no- I forget why.

I think my biggest regret is caving into my parents demands (when I was 22) that I HAD to come back from volunteering abroad to go to grad school within 1 year of graduation. I left an opportunity in France where I had a visa, I was becoming proficient in French, and I could have stayed for at least 1.5-2.5 more years (I stayed 7 months). I had a boyfriend in the US and we could have figured out a way for him to visit and figured it out, without me having to quit and return back to the US.

I also regret giving into the idea that I was "too poor" to travel after returning from Europe and not knowing HOW to find cheap travel and GOING for it. Between 23-30, I traveled once abroad (and already had a child).

Now as a 35 year old....I travel as much as I can!

I only regret that Dh and I use to drink so much when we were in our early 30s we'd get too drunk to really enjoy some of the fabulous places we traveled to pre-kid.

We had a good time but a lot of the memories are blurred because we spent all our time drinking and laying around and just 'going with the flow' instead of getting out and exploring and making the most of things. Not to say we didn't get out and sightsee etc, but I feel like we could've done/seen more.

Thankfully now with a 6yo DS we've both cut wayyyy back and when we travel we both like to get up early and get our day started. And we've traveled a lot with our son and made great memories but I eventually want to revisit some of the places we went back in the day to get the full experience.
