I know it's been discussed on this board before, but it bears repeating that car theft is not a victimless crime. It's a huge hassle and ends up costing the car owner a lot out of pocket, even with good insurance. In DC the USA and all judges are federally appointed, no one elected them. You should know those basic facts posting on a DC centric board. I agree that more accountability for outcomes throughout the justice system could in theory be helpful, yet a similar lax approach seems to be the norm in close in MD and VA too.
