Love this, OP. Wonder if my grandma’s are still growing on what was our family farm.

Beautiful. I had these at my childhood home, too.

If you have kids, you should take a cutting for each kid this fall and get them started. I would be overcome with joy to have peonies from my ancestors’ farms!

Why don't you cut a few and bring them in the house? If it's going to rain cut all the ones that will get sodden and sag to the ground!

That's so lovely, OP! My family doesn't have any plants that have been shared/passed down but now I'm tempted to ask my dad for cutting from his garden when I buy my first house (hopefully next year!).

Anonymous wrote:OMG! I thought I'd written this post! I, too, am from Indiana and dug up the peonies from our family farm when my mother sold it (it's now a housing addition). Some of them are as old as yours (I have 4 different kinds). I also have Lily of the Valley from my maternal great, great grandmother's farm, purple iris from my father's family farm and some coral bells from my paternal grandmother. I've also got the ubiquitous orange day lillies from the road ditches by our family farm (I've since learned they're invasive).

The peonies are my favorite, though, especially the ones that have a fragrance!

I am the pp with grandma’s peonies! I love hearing other people also have that special joy of heirloom peonies from the family farm!

I was JUST thinking about my grandma's peonies in her Edmonton, Alberta garden in the 1970s, and wondering what happened to them.

The property was sold and the house redone, but maybe the peonies are still there. Your post has inspired me, OP and PPs!! I'm going to ask my cousin to go find out and maybe I can have some!

They haven't bloomed yet this year, but I'll update with a pic when they do!
