My son still talks about Steak Shack on the beach. We visited several times on a single trip and it’s probably the first place we’d return to if we were on Oahu again.

The breakfast place I was thinking of with the good Kahlua pork Benedict is called Sweet-E’s. And the touristy shave ice cart on Waikiki is called Island Vintage Shave Ice.

I don’t recommend it. I hadn’t understood the Mormon influence before I went, and I didn’t appreciate the subtle but distinct proselytizing.

They didn't try to proselytize or convert me. They never mentioned God or religion once. I guess if you're biased against Mormons you won't like it.

Oh for Pete’s sake. What a ridiculously histrionic response.

Are you always this dramatic?

It’s not dramatic to point out over-the-top absurdity. Goodness. You are ridiculous.

Yes it is over-the-top absurd to be so afraid of Mormons.

If you fly to Maui, Mamas Fish House is legendary, but you have to make reservations a year in advance.

Leoda’s is also great.

Diamond Head is really neat. You need reservations. Go early because if it’s full sun, it is very hot.

Iolani Palace is amazing. I hated the Missionary Museum.

Hanauma Bay is a must do for snorkling.

The hike to the Makapu'u Lighthouse at Laie Point is easy and the views are awesome. I also liked the Manoa Falls hike, but beware, it is MUDDY.

For food, I love the lilikoi ribs at Side Street Inn. Lappert's for ice cream. And I know it's kitschy, but Giovanni's Shrimp Truck on the North Shore.

Tori Richard for $$$$$ Hawaiian clothes (although it's much cheaper w coupons at Macy's, and the Ala Moana Macy's is much nicer than any mainland Macy's). ABC Store for cheaper souvenirs.

Curry udon at Marugame. Tempura, cold noodles, or hot noodle soup. Everything is good. Get there early. There is always a line. Poke bowls. Eggs n Things has great pancakes and breakfast.

Marugame Udon - its a must go. Don't be intimated by the line, it moves quick.

I’ve eaten at multiple restaurants on this list and recommend all of the ones I visited.

The thing with Hawaii is that casual food is extremely high quality. Their 7-11s sell warm food that’s orders of magnitude better than what you’d find warm in a mainland 7-11. You find amazing food in HI in tiny little holes in the wall. You don’t have to go to fancy restaurants.
