I have read that Albufeira, which is in the Algarve, is trashy, but this is the first time I've read the term applied to Lagos. We'll be there in early July, guess we'll see.

Albufeira/Alvor and Lagos are over run by European tourists.

Yeah, I mean, we're all tourists when we go to Europe, so, get over yourself. We enjoyed the Algarve. It's beautiful. It's not off the beaten path, and that's fine.

Well it is in Europe, and is a tourist destination.

We stayed outside farragudo. It was beautiful and very relaxed. I think the beach we went to was Caneiros.

Not everywhere fwiw

Yes everywhere. Why go to the Algarve when you can just go to Cancun? Seriously, it’s the same.

We stayed at a super chill part of Algarve that was beautiful and did not have any Cancun vibes. Rented an air Bnb outside of Ferragudo

I went to the Algarve twice in the mid-90s. It was lovely. I wouldn't go near the place now. Nor Cancun.

NP. Anyone been to Porches? We will be there in a couple weeks, hopefully before the peak season starts.

and Germans. My gawd. The drunken singing and loud noises late at night.

Stay away from Lagos. We left early there and drove west. Found a tiny seaside fishing village and stayed there.

Oh, and DH is a Brit, and even he couldn't stand Lagos.

This was not our experience in Lagos. Granted we were at, literally, a week before "high season." Still, a lot of people, though. And we had our child with us. We enjoyed it.

What is considered "high season?" We'll be there (Lagos) July 2-6.

Weird that you’ve been everywhere in the Algarve when you hate it so much?

Not at all. It’s just so trashy and small that it’s reputation precedes it. Like Cancun. But have fun OP!!

Please stay off the travel boards if you have nothing but smug ignorance to contribute

Agreed. What a dumba$$. It's nothing like Cancun.
