I like my home to be a peaceful refuge from noise pollution. I specifically chose a breed that is quiet because I don’t like the sound of barking dogs. I’m thrilled that my boy doesn’t bark at humans or other animals.

We have two large dogs, they do this, and I’m very happy to let it happen.

It discourages solicitors and potential intruders, and as a bonus it annoys neighborhood busybodies. Doesn’t bother me at all.

My neighbor has two small dogs who bark a LOT (which drives me insane), but thankfully not all day. She describes it as "happy barks" and that tells me everything I need to know about her level of tolerance for the noise vs. mine.

City living so we all have to put up with one another and this is part of it. The alternative is to get a house with some land and distance between me and my neighbors and that's not happening.

My dog is the opposite (from what I understand from others). He barks at every passing squirrel, dog, person when we are home, but not when we are away. If someone comes up the walk, he will bark regardless of whether we are home or not.

My neighbor’s dog does this. In my neighbor’s case it’s a combination of a poorly trained dog and her mother, who has developed dementia, always draws the dog’s attention to whatever is happening outside. I don’t think people understand in general that they’re supposed to train their dogs.
