Food. Giant headphones. More food. No toys. At a certain point, I take out a plastic bag and we play a game where she cleans all of the fallen food/crumbs. Then I give her a sticker. And she’s flown all over the world. Never wants books. Loses crayons all over the floor. But the giant headphones and unlimited food is the best motivator.

Melissa and Doug have a tape activity book that is awesome

Getting on board with Water Wow, Wikistix, stickers of all sorts (the Melissa and Doug vinyl sticker pages are great, but you have to give up some space). Old school colouring. Obviously screens with some fun apps. Cards, if your kids play (not great for the plane but great for the airport).

OMG, these are amazing!! My kid is 13 and I occasionally still find one of these. I had to check the date on your post to confirm I hadn't made this recommendation myself, 8 years ago. I had one of these in my purse for about 3 years straight, they were such a useful distraction on planes, at restaurants, any kind of travel situation.

This plus a stuffy to cuddle with.
I like the puffy stickers that she can put on and pull off of the window repeatedly.
Make sure the tablet is charged and you download all of their favorite shows/movies and we bought fun headphones that look like cat ears.
Bring a variety of snacks and a water bottle. We often pack a bentgo box with little bits of lots of things she likes.
