Used to always if i wasn’t already home. Did notice my effort to repay small amounts slowed the line down and weren’t always appreciated.
Credit cards negate the situation most of the time.
If there’s a business that routinely errs in their favor (say a fruit and veggie mart) I stop going.

Some years ago Whole Foods cashiers often did not know all of their products and routinely made up prices at registers. That was annoying. They have less variety and it’s better marked now. Doesn’t happen anymore, so no questions from me.

Wrong. Employers are allowed to dock pay for cash drawer shortages.

Sometimes it's better not to say anything. The cashier may have to call for a supervisor to correct the error, and then the supervisor may gave them some kind of warning, which may lead to dismissal if they do it again.

Yes, but more often the mistake is in the store's favor and it is not a mistake made by the cashier.

Quite often the actual price or sale price does not ring up on the register; instead a higher price does. Very possible that pricing errors are done intentionally by stores to increase profit margins. Systematic theft. Almost always when I discover such an error, it remains uncorrected days later.

Nope. And yes, I've been a cashier.

It depends on the store. Walmart? No. Small family-owned business? Yes.

If their drawer would be wrong, then definitely. If they charged me the wrong price, then usually no. I’m not the store’s quality control staff.

No. I pay credit and 9 out of 10 errors are in the stores favor. And I rarely go back to correct them for small items, so the store still comes out ahead.

Can’t count the number of times I’ve bought something at the supermarket for let’s say 1.99 and check the bill at home and it says 2.49. The opposite is very rare!

Pretty much this.

Also, if an item is miss marked. Like a cut of meat that is 19.99 lb is Marked at 1.99 a lb, I’m keeping my mouth shut.

If the self serve scanner does not pick up the code on my item when I scan it once or twice I put it in my bag anyway and walk away. If they don’t want those losses they can pay for cashiers.

Literally never. It’s on them to do their job right.

Yes. It had a friend in college who took the hit and had to pay her employer back for her mistake.

I’m not going to be the reason someone loses a job.

It’s the right thing to do.

I used to correct (both in my favor and the store's) but I stopped because too many times, it led to a manager having to be called over, or a clerk being sent back to find the correct price for organic strawberries, or whatever. Now I don't say anything either way. Keep it moving.
