Can’t have this and a stable housing market at the same time. Rentals will go way way up if people don’t need to stay out for an employer.

As someone who is self employed it is not a wash. Large employers get access to better plans for less money due to the size of their company.

I think it will be increasingly gig work, outsourced to cheaper countries, and eventually UBI for the lucky ones who live in developed countries.
Some people will supplement UBI with either tasks that can’t be done remotely from, say, India, or highly specialized and highly paid tasks.

I had to onboard a woman who had my position, but she was in another state, while I live only a few miles from the office. I felt really awful about it, because I wasn't sure if she knew it wasn't a very secure position. The funding wasn't very secure.

I think you are right. I am observing the gig economy of accountants. I also personally experienced outsourcing of business management practices (accounting, operations and payroll). So in the future, only a few people with good expertise will have full time jobs, while rest will be on a gig basis.
