Golf carts are only allowed on certain roads and only at night IF they have certain safety features like lights, which this one had. This is very common in a low country community. If the driver was not drunk and driving, 40 mph over, this would not have been a factor.
I'm from Florida, so I get it. I also disagree that it's safe to have golf carts with a max speed of 25 mph on a road. Similarly, I think it's foolish to allow cars on beaches where there are sunbathers. It's a recipe for disaster.
The speed limit on the road was 25. The drunk driving criminal was going 65. She would have likely rear ended any vehicle.

So as to keep anonymity, I’m not going to say how I know her but she’s had a very privileged life. Yes, a child and another adult and it’s not clear if the husband is going to live.
Does he know about his wife? I can’t imagine the horror.

Whether it’s a golf cart or an oversized SUV, you’re not allowed to crash into it, but if someone else is going to crash into me at 65 mph, I’d much rather be wearing a seatbelt in an enclosed vehicle than bouncing around on the rear end of a golf cart.

It is. Similar to other resort communities like Hilton Head, Folly Beach is fairly wealthy and down by the ocean you're as likely to see golf carts as you are to see cars. My parents live near there and everyone owns golf carts.
