And yet I bet you just couldn’t come to vote for the left leaning Ward 3 Republican in the last election, could you? The horror of the thought of 1 out of 13 council members being an independent voice was just too triggering. Now we’re stuck with lame duck Frumin who cruises around the Ward on his bike like some Bon vivant looking for a fresh baguette. While the city is cratering and his ward becoming a crime zone his most recent piece of legislation was to declare May “Old People are Cool Month.” We’re all doomed this summer once it heats up and I fully expect that the mayor will call out the national guard which is why the Chief left when he did.

I dislike Amazon, Ebay, etc. as much as the next guy, this stuff is going to happen until you people get over your idea of a perfect utopia where we all hold hands and sing happily. These kids need to be locked up, as should their parents. You would not coddle your own children if they exhibited these behaviors (at least I hope you would not) and you are only searching for an answer to this other than personal responsibility because you do not want to be called a racist. D.C. is pathetic right now, walk through downtown, look at the abandoned stores in Georgetown, the smashed in windows at the Chanel store in NW from last weeks robbery (third time for that store) and you will see all you need to see. Several years ago while driving home from work late one Summer evening on McArthur in the Palisades I was attacked, yes attacked, with my children in the car by a huge crowd of wild bicyclists banging our cars with metal rods as they rode straight into the traffic. These kids are now the young men and women riding the dirt bikes throughout the city and yes, vandalizing our stores and personal safety. Did anyone not vote for Bowser after this downfall started, nope, she is still sitting there. You blame this on the Council and you act as though she has no back door impact on the Council. F g joke.

I’ve seen this happen @ the Tenleytown target and Van Ness Giant I definitely blame Bowser and the outgoing police chief.

If I worked as a CVS clerk for CVS clerk wages, there is absolutely no way I'd intervene in a robbery to protect CVS's profit margin. It's unfortunate that shoppers are upset about it, but that's a problem for CVS management to try to resolve, not something for their lowest-paid employees.

I’m just very sceptical that you will ever hire enough police officers or build enough jails to deter your way out of this situation if there is demand for it (leaving aside the immense cost of trying to do so).

We could not have put more resources into the “war on drugs” in the last 30 years and how is that going?

PP didn’t say anything about thieves not going to jail. PP is just pointing out the demand side, that sites like Amazon (and FB Marketplace) make selling stuff that “fell off the truck” a LOT easier for regular people who aren’t adjacent to organized crime.

I think we’ll see a big change next election cycle.
There is no deterrent for people committing these crimes and much worse.
I know I’m going to be checking the box for people who want to fund the police and crack down on crime.
