No don't do this. And especially not different shades / different widths of wood. Why not go with natural color hardwood everywhere.

Agree that tile + wood could work, but two different shades of wood is going to look wrong.

My sister got the really dark wood floors and HATES them. They show every speck of dirt, and since she has dogs you can see little dog hairs everywhere, even with daily Roomba + frequent sweeping. I would stay away from any kind of trendy colored wood (super dark, grey) and stick with something more mid-toned. Maybe a walnut?

No, we've seen a few houses like this and it looks jarring and ugy. It wouldn't keep me from buying the house, but I don't like it.
