And governments love it because fines are limited source of funds to raise from people who can't fight back, instead of taxing the rich more.

Fortunately, there's a super-easy way for you to avoid getting a ticket for passing a stopped school bus while driving! Namely, stop for stopped school buses.

Not in Montgomery County! Bus Patrol cameras are giving out citations to drivers who aren't even passing a school bus on the road. The school bus can be pulled off in a parking lot and as long as the camera can see cars, they get citations! Huge win for Bus Patrol. Too bad for County drivers.

Yeah, no.

Roll your eyes over to East West Highway where citations are being given out every day by a MCPS school bus parked in a parking lot. Millions have been collected in that location and it's a well known scam among elected officials and neighbors.

Wtf!?!?!

Easy on a quiet, obvious neighborhood street.

You’ll get rear ended and cause a pile up and earth in a busy, multi lane, two direction commercial street.

Remember when there was a shortage of bus drivers and there was a hiring push? They got just anybody when nobody wants the job.

sure it is.

There's some truth here. The 1400 East West Hwy stop does, indeed, generate a large number of tickets (roughly 1500 a year or 8 per school day, but I have no idea how often buses are stopped there). Source: https://dlslibrary.state.md.us/publications/counties/Montgomery/TR8-663(b)(1)_2022.pdf

But, the apartment building there, Lenox Park doesn't have a parking lot. The buses are in a short private circle off the road (see this reddit thread from someone who got a ticket: https://www.reddit.com/r/SilverSpring/comments/xoqsbq/be_aware_hidden_bus_stop_on_eastwest_you_will_get/).

Off the road. Not in the road and citations are still being given out.

Bus Patrol sucking cash out of drivers illegally.

It's kind of a reverse lottery that helps fund our schools.

LOL you know MCPS isn't the one making the profit. It's a reverse lottery that funds Bus Patrol and they say thank you very much!
