I am sorry but that is just not a realistic sum. $30 an hour ( $15 for two kids) is not a bad wage and seems to be about the norml out in the real world and discussed in this thread. Thats like over $60k salary a year. And yes working with two kids is very hard and challenging and that 60k is well deserved but lets be honest here.

Current nanny-share mom in Kensington, MD. $30 an hour, split between families for 1.5 year olds. All on the books. Both families use a payroll service. Only one family hosts so nanny only has to travel to one location, deal with set up there. We discussed whether we'd pay just a little more if we rotated locations and if that made things more involved or complicated for nanny.

It’s different and more difficult to care for two same age kids than two different age siblings. I nannied in my 20s. I was paid $20 an hour 15 years ago, but when I took care of two babies from different families at the same time my rate was $30. This was just part-time, not a FT nanny share. It was very easy to take care of one toddler, or a baby and a 2 or 3 year old. The two babies/young toddlers at the same time was challenging. Then I got married and pregnant with twins. Go fig.

We pay $25/hour split between 2 families for 2 toddlers. But it’s part time (~25 hours/week) with a flexible schedule around our nanny’s children’s school schedule (the other mom in the share and I both work from home and set our own hours so it was a good fit all around). We do payroll with taxes, offer paid holidays and sick leave, and guarantee hours even if one family is traveling, which seems pretty standard.

We got quoted higher rates (like $30+) early on in our search, so I think being able to offer the hours that aligned with our nanny’s schedule is what made her want to take the job with us.

I am the host in a NWDC nannyshare. We have a very experienced nanny and each family pays $15 an hour on the books.

2 kids from one family is not the same amount of work as kids from 2 different families. It looks like your nanny is just trying to save her job by agreeing to a second kid for such pittance. I feel sorry for her but she seems to be silly. She could just step out there and find a single baby job for 27-30 per hr. Also, nannies that never worked in the share might not realize that it is not the same as 2 kids from one family. And anyway, $28 for 2 kids is the very minimal for this area, you get nanny with very little experience (like a year or 2), no education, no certifications, and probably no authorization to work even.

I'm in the bay area (so likely more expensive) in Sept 2021 rate quoted to me was $27 for one kid $32 for the nanny share. (I was in a potential nanny share where the other family dropped.) So going from $26 for two kids to $28 for 2 kids plus share - seems reasonable - assuming a rate for 2 kids no nanny share was somewhere in between the 27 and 32 I was quoted.

OP, I think the people posting on here about $30+/hour are less likely to be parents. You've got a set of posters telling you they are currently in arrangements with a certain rate, and then you've got another set of posters telling you that "no nanny would ever accept that rate." I imagine the second set of posters are not parents. I absolutely do not think $39/hour for two children, regardless of if they are from two families, is close to market.

PP here it’s not double the work. Right now, she cares for my two children. When we move to a share, she will be caring for one of my children (The other will be in school and aftercare) and one child from another family. It’s still two kids. The extra money is for the annoyance of dealing with two families.

No nanny will take just 2 extra bucks an hour for twice the amount of work, plus dealing with 2 sets of families, do not try to fool us PP. I do not think the double amount is OK but 1,5 I think is the gold standard, which in your case is $39 per hr. If nanny agrees to less, expect her to leave in couple of months. Too much work!

Yes, she’s great with it. Still two kids, $2 raise. Yay.

There is no “industry standard” for this, and $34 per hour is absurd.

OP - watch out for posters like this. I’ve been in two different nanny shares, soon will start a third, plus I’ve had my own nanny, and there are always people (maybe nannies?) posting stuff on DCUM with crazy high rates and claiming it’s “standard”.

In my experience, a share gets the nanny $1-5 per hour more, and yes, there are some nannies who won’t do shares.
