The amount of kids missing sports tryouts is negligible and only happens once. After that the kid and parents hopefully are smart enough to figure it out. As posted already, the dates are known well in advance for this very reason. Your vacation schedule is of no concern to the coaches.

Are you insane? Schools DO put this much effort into academics. Unfortunately most of the effort does go towards "equity." Schools can't "cut" the kids who are way behind and just can't cut it. Sports can. Like PP said, sports is not an entitlement like free education.

Both of you are idiotic. School focus is reading, writing, arithmetic, etc. Sports are an add on. BUT I promise you that the crime rate in this country would drop double digit points if all HSs required a sport each season. There is enormous value in being physically active outdoors everyday. We are animals. We are meant to be outside.

Also, don't plan to vacation after tryouts because they immediately launch into a pretty intense practice schedule and games often begin before school begins.

Different high schools will have different sports that are "cut" and "no cut" sports.

But no your child is not likely to make a "cut" sport if they miss tryouts. Its always the first week of August each year for fall sports.

If it's a cut sport for fall, no, that kid probably isn't going to get to be on the team unless they are some kind of super-talent. Even then, there might not be a spot. This is how it's always been.
