Run around with spectracide spray, it’s pretty quick and only 6 bucks on Amazon. Its also rewarding to see them slowly wither away.

What?? Are you nuts?? Between work, kids, school, commuting, sports, doctor appointments, etc…who has time to weed their yard?! Especially a huge yard like mine that also needs mowing, mulching, pruning, trimming, aerating, etc!!!

+1 you’re probably talking to a retiree with a .2 acre lot.

OP here, was just looking around the forum and I saw that this thread had been revived. Unfortunately that description does not fit me - I'm in my 30s with a 1/3 acre lot. The weeding takes hours per week to stay on top of.

Not retired and 1.5ac lot

How nice that you don't have any problems kneeling. Not all of us are so lucky to be physically able to do the weeding. But at least I'm not a narcissist who can't imagine other people's different capabilities and lives.

Another 55yo mom who works AND has teens, although I do have a .2 acre. However, it is a work in progress. You don't have to kneel. Buy a gardening stool. Sit on it. (I'm sure that you'll find a way to flame me just pointing out that you don't need to kneel.)

We have a bi-weekly service that comes in and weed-eats and tidies up all the beds and fence lines around our property (horse/farm property). We just don't have time to do everything that needs to be done and I'd rather spend my free time riding or other farm things, and it saves arguing with DH who HATES to weed eat but doesn't have a problem with mowing. I look at this expense like most people do a weekly housekeeping service, something that frees up my limited time and makes life just a little less hectic, and saves my back as a bonus. They also do a spring and fall clean-up and mulch for us every spring.

Agree with the other posters who said you will need to work with them at first to make sure they know how to clean, weed, and prune properly - the first year they cut back my hydrangeas and weigelas and those plants bloom on old wood so that was a teachable moment for me and for them. Now when they do spring cleaning, I am out there with them watching and I also tag plants and shrubs that should not be cut back with red ribbons so they know to stay away from them. I also meet with the foreman every visit to show him things I want done and that has helped a lot.

Our weeds come out from gravel so we can’t put mulch there- would rather pay some to pull vs using pesticides.

I have a guy who weeds for me. He’s undocumented and doesn’t speak a word of English. I pay him $30 a hour under the table.

Make sure they only pull the weeds. For folks with no experience it can turn into a disaster. I’ve had many seedlings pulled by mistake.

Kids don’t want to do it.
