And I know Times Square is a tourist trap but my spouse is nyc born and raised, and we always stay there. She used to be skeptical about it, again being a New Yorker, but it’s just so convenient to grab a train to anywhere you want to go, and we’re Broadway fans, so it’s easy to walk to any theater.

We've stayed at the Marquis but are looking to go to NYC in the spring and want to stay somewhere more low key. Anyone have experience with the Moxy in Lower East Side? Any other suggestions? Kids are teens.

Courtyard Chelsea on w 34th. Close to Penn Station, Midtown, the Highline, theaters and more but also on a quiet sides street. Upper east side recs include the Lexington ( boutique hotel feel) at 50th and Lexington. Right behind it is a residence inn where I once stayed in the largest hotel room I have ever seen. It had a kitchen and 1.5 baths which is bananas for NYC.
But the center of kid gravity in New York is now around the World Trade Center, and Brooklyn. I can see going to Midtown for a conference. But what would kids really do there, other than get mauled by ex-cons in Elmo costumes? Museums, I guess, but there’re museums in DC.

I’m one of the Marriott Marquis people - have you stayed there? If not, don’t knock it. We used to live NYC and yes as a general matter we avoid Times Square. But if you’re only there for a weekend and it’s right by the bway shows you’re seeing - it wasn’t bad. I’ve also stayed at residence inn in Manhattan and the giraffe and didn’t find those to be particularly better fwiw.
