OP here- I think trashed is a bit misused in that context. Lets give UA a round of applause for providing a choking hazard for a snack AND one of th messiest snacks on gods green earth besides unshelled peanuts/sunflower seeds.
And the behavior is not about the kids in either instance, its about our society's reaction to kids being kids and somehow holding them to a higher standard than adults.
Luckily, we don't allow guns or weapons on planes although I am sure that's in the not-too-distant future.
You want the airlines to not serve snacks that are choking hazards? The kid isn't flying alone.
From a liability standpoint, I am surprised they do it at all. Grapes, popcorn, and hot dogs are the top 3 choking hazards. Sure you can Heimlich a kid but if it doesn't work ....

This nut job did this on the tarmac I believe while the plane experienced a significant delay. So eventually the police came on board and escorted him and his wife off the plane.

Nope I think that flying used to be luxurious and now it literally is packed like sardines and everyone is hot and you are lucky to get more than 4 oz to drink and god forbid you need to go to the bathroom while the plane is on the tarmac for the 4th hour or is circling for 1.5 hours after being on a plane for 4 hours.
I will fly solo as long as I have an edible beforehand.

Yes, it is unfortunate that when we are in public spaces, we have to endure other human beings. Even (shudder) children. Relying on commercial public transport means encountering.... the public.
It appeared everyone else on the flight found a way to cope. The guy should be on a no fly list now.

I'd rather drive 10 hours than be on a plane. I don't understand how it is easier or more relaxing.
The reason why there should be child free flights. Or. Children in back area of planes. After all, under age two, they are flying for free but the rest of passengers are paying. They do not pay to hear your kid screaming. Stop flying with sick children, drive instead!
If airlines were smart, they’d have babies and toddlers sit up front, last on and first off. Why isn’t that common sense?

If you are bothered by babies crying it is on YOU to bring strong noise-cancelling headphones.
Moms don't like it either. I am REALLY triggered by baby cries. So I put on headphones.

Kids can be annoying, but that's life. They don't typically choose to be.
It's giant man-babies like the guy on the flight who makes me want to kill. Adults are supposed to be able to tolerate some discomfort and inconvenience without melting down like a cranky toddler,

What an immature jerk. I’m sure the mother was trying to do everything in her power to get her baby to stop screaming. He could’ve just ignored it or even tried to help, but instead it was all about him.
He was given the option to get off the plane and he refused, thereby making everyone else on the plane deplane. Awful behavior!

I hate to tell you this, but this kind of thing happens on all domestic airlines all the time. The flying public's behavior has changed a lot in the last 10 years, it's frankly disgusting at times.
